Psychological Implications of Helping

In this course you will be introduced to psychological implications of helping. We will explain why people help and by which motives and expectations helpers are driven to support others.

You will get to know the psychological concepts of altruism and egoism and  learn that helping usually emerges from a combination of these attitudes.

Concluding, we will discuss potential challenges, limits and risks of helping and introduce the Helper Syndrome as an inappropriate background for prosocial behaviour.
