Introduction

In Austria, all people living here are entitled to health care. People applying for asylum receive support in terms of care and accommodation within the framework of basic care. This also regulates medical services and health insurance, among other things. Asylum seekers, persons entitled to asylum and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection who are in basic care are covered by health insurance in Austria. Austria is obliged to provide basic health care; costs and responsibilities are divided between the federal government (Ministry of the Interior) and the Länder.

For those entitled to asylum, the support provided by the basic provision ends after a transitional period of four months.
