Introduction

General Information

The correct and sustainable integration of refugees is a central issue. People who want to stay in Germany permanently, need not only language but also cultural integration. So-called integration courses offer a first contact point because they are intended to strengthen the social participation and integration of immigrants. Within the framework of an integration course, interested persons complete a language course and an orientation course 1.

Here you will find an overview of the various modules of the integration courses.

To provide the first overview, here is an insight into the general structures:

The language course

The language course currently comprises about 600 teaching units (45 minutes each).

Participants learn the German language up to B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages 2. B1 level allows an advanced use of the language and enables the participants to find their way in everyday life 3.

The language course ends with the so-called German Test for Immigrants (DTZ). Those who do not pass the test can repeat a maximum of 300 teaching units and retake the final examination free of charge.

The orientation course

The orientation course comprises only about 100 teaching units and provides basic knowledge of the legal system, history and culture of Germany. Participants will also learn which values are particularly important in Germany.

The orientation course also ends with an ‚LiD‘ examination (Living in Germany) 4.

If participants pass both exams, they receive the Integration Course certificate.

Beside the integration course there are many independent offers for language courses, which can often be completed online and are free of charge. In the corresponding chapter some up-to-date examples are shown
