Who has the right to work?

Work as asylum seeker
An asylum seeker in Slovenia can start working nine months after having filed an application for international protection, if he/she has not yet received any kind of decision during this period, and is not to blame for the delay. The person must apply for the work permit with the person in charge of the asylum application.1

The same employment regulations apply as to Slovene nationals.

Persons who have been granted international protection
A person who has been granted international protection has the same employment rights as Slovene citizens and free access to the labour market. This means that he/she does not need a work permit. One can register with Employment Service and use services and benefits it offers to the unemployed.
Family member of a person with granted protection
A family member of a person with granted protection has the same rights as persons who have been granted protection, i.e. free access to the labour market. This also means that no work permit is required.
