Introduction

Migration is not only a phenomenon of today’s world! Migration has always existed and in fact has made the world what it is today. Think back to antiquity when the ancient Greeks built poleis not only in Greece itself but in Asia, too.

Nonetheless the recent wave of migrations throughout the 21st century from countries like Syria and from North Africa has evolved to the so-called European Migrant Crisis. No doubt – it has had a huge impact on Europe and has faced the European Union with enormous challenges on both, political and social levels.

That is why we’d like to give you a recap on migration in the EU in retrospect and the events of the 2015 refugee crisis.
