Cultural Standards

When dealing with people with different cultural backgrounds we want to understand their thinking and acting patterns, norms and values. The Models of Cultural Standards, introduced by Alexander Thomas, has the aims to raise awareness on cultural contrasts and to improve intercultural communication processes.

In this course we will explain the Model of Cultural Standards and its function as an orientation system. Examples will show the positive and negative implications. We will critically discuss the benefits and potential handicaps of the model.
