This course deals with the phenomenon of voluntary work, its psychological background and its effects. At first we will introduce you to a number of institutional frameworks for volunteering and the ways voluntary engagment can be performed.

You will get to know typical motivations of volunteers and learn why they decide for which kinds of voluntary activities.

We will also describe the psychological functions and the benefits volunteers can expect, e.g. social affiliation, positive effects on mental and physical health, advanced career opportunities and self-actualisation through fun and fulfilment.
