This course explains basic rules on access to work in Austria for fugitives. In the first unit learners learn who can obtain a work permit in Austria at what time and which conditions have to be fulfilled. The topic „Recognition of existing qualifications“ will also be dealt with. Finally, useful contact and advice points are presented to which they can turn with further questions.

Whether and which access possibilities exist for fugitives to the Austrian labour market depends not only on whether a residence permit has been issued, but also on the type of permit.

Depending on the type of protection established during the asylum procedure, refugees receive a residence permit of one to three years. Later on, there is often the possibility of extending or enforcing a permanent residence permit.
