Further educational offers in Vienna

German Courses, Literacy & Basic Education

The Vienna Social Fund, together with the European Social Fund, is financing a total of 5,000 additional German language course places for asylum seekers in the Vienna Basic Services until June 2019. The offer includes

  • literacy
  • basic education
  • German courses at levels A1, A2, B1

In addition, there are special German courses for advanced learners, language courses to prepare for the job market or for a university education.

Transitional courses of the Vienna AHS

In order to make it easier for young refugees who no longer have to attend school to enter the Austrian school system, so-called transitional courses have been set up at general secondary schools (AHS) (courses for young people with little knowledge of German as the language of instruction). In the transition courses, the emphasis is on general subjects. In addition to German as a foreign language/second language, the focus is on mathematics and English. Further information can be obtained from the Vienna Education Hub.
